More job Layoffs mean working leaner
The USA Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that employment is down over 260,000 from last December. Over the past year job unemployment rate has reached 4.5 %. Most of the employment losses are in the construction, retail and manufacturing fields. There are sure a lot of displaced workers out there!
What that means is that, for those of you already gainfully employed, you need to keep your work up to high standards and get noticed by the boss. It is not only important to show up for work now...you have to "deliver" the goods by working productively. It is no surprise that we have to wear many "hats" on the job. Stretching the work duties in your job is now common place. Years ago we could argue with our boss that the additional job duties that were given us demands a pay raise or at least pay for job duties paid for. Gone are those days. With corporations cutting benefits, limited career paths, hiring freezes, cost of living freezes, there is no need to worry about these things anymore. What is important is that you work hard and productively.
Of course, working hard at the corporation is not all that is in store for you. For those of you who are ambitious, spend your weekends and nights, planning your "breakout." I took about two years of planning my "escape" prior to me leaving my company. I would go to the libraries and talk to friends of friends about my alternate career options. After many months of research, self employment in special events was the answer!
In my next post, I will share my experience with how I made my "break" to the current success I have right now.
Peace and Love,
Bruce
