I have received several calls from the office of my former employer to troubleshoot both their end of day financial problems and their wifi hot spot connection that I set up before I left. 

Now keep in mind that I am now over 2000 miles away.  It's not that I mind the call about what to do when their credit card total is a penny short.  That is a simple answer to their question followed by a hardy laugh.  But troubleshooting a wifi system over the phone when the person on the other side has no clue?  Well, that is something that you pay for the time and help.  So why was my statement of a consulting fee laughed at?  Needless to say, I have not heard back from them since.   Maybe they hired some $90 an hour computer tech to help.  A far cry from the $10 an hour I was paid to set the wifi system up.

All of this has made me think about how valuable my skills are.   I really have a lot to offer and it's not free.
